Issues with Version 1.6

March 1, 2010 by fluentmobile

Version 1.6 of Fluent News was approved and available in the App Store on Tuesday of last week (2010-02-23).  It includes weather and several performance enhancements.  It also contains a change so that links shared to Twitter, to Facebook and via email now link directly to the news source.

Thank you to all of our users who have submitted feedback and support inquiries on version 1.6.  We know that many of you have been experiencing app crashes and that some of you are experiencing problems with the location configuration.  We’ve already submitted a bug-fix release that addresses these issues.  Please look for that update in the App Store soon.

Version 1.5 Features and Some Support Topics

December 29, 2009 by fluentmobile

Fluent News version 1.5 is now available. It offers some performance enhancements, includes timestamps on articles and displays an indicator while an article is still downloading, so you’ll know whether that article will be available offline when you step into the subway or onto an airplane. It’s best to give Fluent News about 2 minutes of wifi connectivity (a little more for 3G) to make sure you’ll have all the articles available offline if you haven’t synced in a few days.

We’ve heard from a few users, primarily iPod Touch owners, this past week who were experiencing app crashes. In most cases, these users had not yet upgraded to OS 3.0 or higher. Unfortunately, Fluent News 1.4 and later is not supported on earlier versions of the iPhone and iPod Touch OS. So if you haven’t upgraded to OS 3.0 or later, please do not upgrade your version of Fluent News.

We hope that you’re as pleased as we are with our latest improvements. As always we welcome your comments at feedback_at_fluentmobile_dot_com. And we wish you all a very healthy and happy new year.

Landscape Mode, Source Filtering and more!

December 2, 2009 by fluentmobile

Fluent News 1.4 went live this week! This approval took a while, but the new release has a lot of great features. Fluent News now supports landscape and full screen display modes. It also provides source filtering; users can disable and promote one news source. Fluent News also offers unlimited source filtering and unlimited custom sections via premium access, which users can buy through in-app purchase. Premium access also removes ads from within the section lists.

This update also includes some performance enhancements. Download it today and let us know what you think!

Facebook Post Error

September 29, 2009 by fluentmobile

We heard from some of our users that they were having difficulty posting articles to Facebook from Fluent News.  Sure enough, something changed on Facebook’s end such that you can no longer post an article to your news feed without a comment.  If you enter any character (other than a space) in the comment text box, the article will post successfully.  In our next release, we are going to automatically send a dash if you don’t include a comment, so that the posting doesn’t fail.  In the meantime, say something witty!  Or just add punctuation.

Version 1.2 available!

September 9, 2009 by fluentmobile

Version 1.2 of Fluent News is now available in the app store.  This update lets you include a message when posting articles to Twitter.  The start-up and article load times are also much faster.  But the most exciting new feature in this release is search!  You can quickly find articles across multiple news sources using keyword search.  Download the 1.2 update and let us know what you think at feedback at fluentmobile dot com.

Version 1.1 Update

July 28, 2009 by fluentmobile

Yesterday, we released our first Fluent News update, Version 1.1.  This upgrade contains new features and some important bug fixes.

Bug Fixes

Backups and Syncing
As several of our users pointed out, Fluent News contributed to long backup and sync times.  We’ve fixed the file storage issues that were causing this problem.  If you experienced lengthy backups and syncs and you use our app with some frequency, you will see a dramatic improvement after installing Version 1.1.

Scrolling and Article Loads
We’ve done a lot of work to improve the smoothness of scrolling.  We’ve also done performance tuning on article load times.  The Fluent News experience should feel faster and smoother all around.

New Features

Saved Articles
We added a “Saved Articles” section to give you easy access to articles you want to read later.  To save an article, click on the sharing menu in the upper right hand corner of the navigation bar and select “Save” from the pop up menu.  Access your articles from the “Saved” icon in the tab bar.  Articles are saved until you delete them.

In-App Email
OS 3.0 broke the email functionality that we shipped with Version 1.0.  So in Version 1.1, we utilized the new SDK and built in-app email.  Now, after sharing an article via email, you are returned to the article you were reading – you never leave the app.  Unfortunately, email no longer works for users on earlier versions of the iPhone OS.

We hope that you continue to enjoy using Fluent News.  As always, we welcome your feedback and suggestions at feedback at fluentmobile dot com.
